A second-chance romance set in the heart of Appalachia that will make you root for first love, forgiveness, and family.

Lenore Wheeler knows what a hard life, heartbreak, and failure tastes like. Heading home to the backwoods Appalachian town she swore she’d never return to with her young daughter in tow, she can’t imagine her future getting much bleaker.

Then she comes face-to-face with the one man she never expected to see again.

Jesse Yates was supposed to escape the mountains, make something of himself, and attain every dream Lenore destroyed. He’s determined to wear down her resolve and win her back, but she’s got a secret to keep and reasons to keep her old flame at arm’s length.

Lenore already broke her own heart to save Jesse, but she’ll do anything to protect her daughter from the same fate.

Except fate has a funny way of working out, especially when all roads lead to home.

My Review:

This is a new to me author. I really love second chance romances. This one was great as it was in the present but flashed back to show Jesse and Lenore grow up together. It took place in West Virginia and it was my first time reading a book with such an Appalachian accent or dialect. I actually checked out some YouTube videos to see if this was really how they talked, being from the West Coast, I was so unfamiliar with it. It bothered my at first but as the book went on I did really think about it.

Jesse and Lenore grew up on a small mountain town. Super secluded and most of the town seemed to be living in poverty. Despite Jesse not wanting anyone to see them together, these two became best friends and then more. Their relationship didn’t start the normal way, but the love was always there.

These so much love though these two lived and grew up with so much shame, for different reasons. This second chance story was different than many I’ve read and I really enjoyed it. I actually did another read through after finishing it the first time. I’ll definitely read another from this author.
